We got back in the classroom at Ceres Adult School to help with D1.1 welder qualification testing - and honestly, it never gets old. There's something about working hands-on with people who are serious about building real trade skills that keeps us coming back.
The D1.1 standard is the benchmark for structural welding in the industry. It's not a checkbox. Welders who earn this qualification have proven they can produce welds that meet strict criteria - things like discontinuity limits, proper reinforcement, and bend test requirements. We walked through all of it with the group, making sure everyone understood not just the rules but the reasons behind them.
Then it was time to put the torch to metal. Watching each person get under the hood and actually run their qualification welds - that's where the real learning happens. You can talk through technique all day, but there's no substitute for striking an arc and executing under a little pressure.
We've been involved in teaching and testing welders for over a decade now. That experience shapes how we approach our own work in the field too - from structural welding repairs to on-site installation, the same standards we teach in that classroom are the ones we hold ourselves to on every job. The trade deserves that kind of consistency.
Growing the next generation of skilled welders matters to us. Programs like this one at Ceres Adult School are doing real work getting qualified people into the industry, and we're proud to be a small part of that.
